Dr. Bauman was born in Houston and grew up in Austin.  She received her Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Texas and her Doctorate's in Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry.  Dr. Bauman completed internships at the Eye Center of Texas in Houston and Quantico Naval Hospital in Quantico, Virginia.

Dr. Bauman is a member of the Harris County Optometric Society, the Texas Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association.  She works with Eye Care for Kids, a nonprofit organization providing eye examinations and eyeglasses for children of financial need.  Dr. Bauman is also involved with InfantSEE®, a non-profit organization providing examinations at no cost to infants under 12 months of age.
